Atcahfalaya Basin. One of the great ecological wonders of the US, the Atchafalaya Basin, which extends north from Morgan City to Lafayette, abounds in all types of wildlife. Comprised of a maze of bayous, lakes, ponds and cypress swamps, the Atchafalya is the largest overflow swamp in the country where avid birders and photographers can spot over 300 known species of birds, 65 species of reptiles, 46 species of mammals, and 90 species of seafood that inhabit the Cajun Coast.

Bayou Teche National Wildlife RefugeBayou Teche National Wildlife Refuge. Situated on 9,028 acres in St. Mary Parish, this National wildlife refuge is a wonderful destination for fishing, hunting, boating, canoeing, kayaking, bird watching, wildlife photography, and hiking on nature trails. Forested with bottomland hardwoods and cypress-gum forests, the Refuge is inhabited by “threatened” Louisiana black bear, alligators, wading and migratory birds, ducks and bald eagles. Atchafalaya BasinAtchafalaya Basin. TLouisiana's beautiful Atchafalaya Basin, the largest active river delta on the continent, is a natural treasure for fishing and hunting. Lake Verret. East of the lower Atchafalaya Basin, Lake Verret is a beautiful system of waterways that is popular with Louisiana anglers and fly fisherman. The 15,000 acre, shallow lake, with its cypress tree-lined shoreline, and the myriad of pipeline canals and bayous, is a honey-hole for largemouth bass, crappie, bluegill, bream and catfish.

Grassy Lake & Lake Palourde. A sport fishing utopia, Lake Palourde and Grassy Lake - included in the Lake Verret watershed - are full of largemouth bass, sac-a-lait, and catfish throughout the year.
